Hamgate SysOps

Purpose of this Working Group:

The purpose of the Hamgate SysOps is to discuss, design, and coordinate the construction, operation, and maintenance, of a network of interconnected JNOS "Hamgate's" (called the "Michigan AMPRnet").

Objectives of this Working Group: 


   The primary objectives of the Hamgate SysOps Working Group are to examine and discuss 
various networking techniques related to JNOS/Hamgates, the deployment of new nodes, the maintenance
of the ENCAP routing table, and the general Operation and Maintenance of the overall network.

   This may include:
      o The design and deployment of NetROM-based networks hubbing off the Hamgate core routers.
      o Determining the 'best practices' for delivering SMTP mail to its destination.
      o Determining the 'best practices' for interfacing and exchanging mail and bulletins 
        with hierarchical mail-forwarding BBS's.
      o Management of the CONVerse conference network.
      o And any other tasks related to the operation of the Michigan AMPRnet network infrastructure.

*** "Hamgates" are defined as JNOS TCP/IP routers, attached to the Internet with a fixed address, 
using the ENCAP.TXT route table to form a fully-meshed backbone with other Hamgates around the 
world, and serving as the 'core' or 'default' router for one or more IP 'subnets' for one or more 
counties or networks.
